White
Bone Country (NEW WORLD RECORDS)
This tripartite CD has a mobile-like character, working entirely
with a fabric of piano and metal percussion in changing manners
and images. The central work Tracks presents the solo
piano in its most 'normal' sound and interaction with the player
a kind of journey, as the title suggests, within a dense and
accumulating polyrhythmic expression. The two surrounding groups
of pieces extend from this in two different directions the opening White
Bone Country towards reduced sound-reveries in processed
piano and small metal percussion, the succeeding Mirages into
pure sonic fantasies made from sampled sounds of prepared piano.

Broadway
Boogie (MOVE RECORDS)
Broadway Boogie is the latest addition to the
Michael Kieran Harvey Collection. CD includes Byrne's
Six Dances for solo piano, as well as music by Andrew
Ford, John McCaughey, Nigel Westlake, Mark Pollard, and
Michael Kieran Harvey. In his CD introduction, Harvey
writes: "This assemblage of recent Australian piano
music has been selected for its allusions - sometimes
extremely tenuous - to New York. A major international
centre of ideas and creativity, this city maintains a
galvanizing effect on Australian intellectual life in
a way that, say, Washington never could..." more

Wildfire (BRAKE
DRUM PERCUSSION)
Brake Drum Percussion writes: "From the early morning
in the African Savannah when the wildlife slowly awakens,
to a roaring wildfire fuelling their stampede. The rage
will stop only when a merciful rain puts out the fire.
Wildfire captures the struggle between beauty and cruelty...
Andrew Byrne's Ascension appeared
on our previous CD in Enrico Bertelli’s arrangement
for percussion. In August ’09 we had the wonderful opportunity
to record a whole session with the fantastic Gamelan set at
York University and we took it!" buy

In
these great times (BYRNEBAND RECORDS)
combines hard-edged post minimal instrumental
pieces with vocal tracks suggesting warped German cabaret songs.
Added to the mix are electronic soundscapes. Together they form
a CD that blurs the boundaries between experimental new music, world
music and rock'n'roll. For this project Byrne is joined by the sound
designer Steve Adam who contributes two pieces and adds an electronic
element to the gritty amplified sound of the ByrneBand. The title
"In these great times" is taken from an ironic text written in the
1930s by the Austrian writer/critic Karl Kraus.
